The Greenhouse is a private, invite-only chat app for Happy Happy Houseplant ("HHHP") and the creators it works with. HHHP runs it. Kinsort LLC builds and hosts it for HHHP. Only people HHHP invites can sign in.
What we keep
- Your email address, for your invitation and the codes you sign in with.
- Your profile: your name, your photo, the social handles you add, and the role HHHP gives you.
- What you post: messages, photos, GIFs and links, and the reports and blocks you make.
- Your devices: if you turn on notifications, the push token Apple gives The Greenhouse on each iPhone or iPad you use, so we can send notifications there, and a record of each notification sent (to which device, for which message, and Apple's answer), deleted after three days. That record never holds what a message says.
- Service records: the sign-in service keeps a log of sign-ins with your email address, and our hosts keep ordinary server logs.
There are no ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, and no analytics tools in the app. We never sell your information.
Who sees it
- Everyone in a channel sees that channel's messages and photos. A direct message is seen only by the two people in it; managers cannot read other people's direct messages.
- Everyone in The Greenhouse sees your name, photo, handles and role.
- When you report a message, HHHP's managers see the report and a copy of the message.
- A notification shows who wrote, where (the channel, or the sender's name for a direct message) and up to 300 characters of the message. Your iPhone or iPad can show it on the Lock Screen, where anyone holding the device can read it. To keep its words off the Lock Screen, set Show Previews to When Unlocked in your device's Settings, under Notifications, or turn a channel's notifications off in the app.
- If a direct message or a mention is still unread after an hour, we email you the start of it. You can turn this off in the app.
Where it is stored
Supabase stores the database and photos in the United States. Resend sends the sign-in emails and our other emails. Apple's push notification service delivers notifications to iPhones and iPads, so the words of each notification pass through Apple. These companies handle your information only to provide their service to us.
GIFs
The GIF picker talks to GIPHY straight from your device. Opening it asks GIPHY for its trending GIFs, and a search sends GIPHY the words you type. GIPHY sees those requests with your device's internet address and the basic details any app's web request carries, such as your device's system version and language, but nothing that names you. The GIFs you see, in the picker and in messages, load straight from GIPHY's servers too, and GIPHY's links carry GIPHY's own codes for counting views, which GIPHY's rules do not let us remove. We keep none of your searches or their results. When you send a GIF, its GIPHY links and title are stored with your message, like the rest of the message. Your device keeps copies of the GIFs it has shown in a small cache: the app uses each copy for a day at most, deletes older copies the next time it shows GIFs, and deletes them all when you sign out. GIPHY's own privacy policy covers what GIPHY does with what it sees.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you are a member. To delete your account, tap Delete account at the bottom of the You tab in the app, or email greenhouse@kinsort.com. Deleting an account removes your profile, photo, sign-in and devices. A device's push token is deleted when you sign out on that device, turn its notifications off, or Apple stops accepting it. Messages you posted stay in their conversations, shown as from a "Former member".
Children
The Greenhouse is for adults who work with HHHP. It is not meant for children.
